We are proud to announce that the first class of Halcyon Bike Workshop have completed their bicycles and are now riding the streets of Nashville (with helmets, of course). The Workshop, a collaboration between Halcyon and Oasis Center, is a non-profit bicycle co-op for Nashville’s underprivileged youth and young adults. Thanks to your generous donations, we have been able to set up a full bicycle repair shop for the kids to use. They come in twice a week, choose a bike from our donated selection to work on, restore and repair the bicycle, and take the bike home when it is complete.
The first session was a huge success. Our mechanics and volunteers were great teachers, and the kids proved to be some of the fastest learners I have ever encountered. Every day at the Workshop was energizing and fun, and all of the kids have asked to participate in the next session of the Workshop. We started the new session this week, and have added some older kids into the mix, including some homeless young adults who need transportation to jobs.
We are always taking donations for the program, in the form of used bicycles in ANY condition, bike parts, or financial contributions. You can bring your donation to the Halcyon Bike Shop, 1118 Halcyon Ave.
