This makes me so happy. Books on Wheels is a non-profit in Richmond, VA run by our awesome, inspiring friends Shelley Briggs and Ward Tefft. The program is as good as it gets: Shelley and Ward drive their, um, festively remodeled school bus around the country and give away free books and bikes, and teach free bike repair.
They made a stop in Nashville back in 2007 during their maiden voyage, and the program has grown considerably in the last two years. Realizing they needed a physical space for their program, Shelley and Ward have opened Books, Bikes and Beyond, a thrift store that gives away books, sells repaired, used bikes, and an assortment of other used items. 100% of the sales go to funding Books on Wheels. Doesn’t that make you smile?
There is a great article about the store here, and if you are in Richmond, VA, please stop by and say hello. Better yet, buy something and know that your purchase is supporting one of the raddest non-profits around. Right on, Shelley and Ward!
