Our friend Candice Burnside was diagnosed with cancer three months ago, and has been fighting the hard fight ever since. She is now recovering from a bilateral mastectomy, and on the road to being cancer free!

You may recognize Candice from Grimey’s Records, where she worked for three years, or if you attend shows in the Nashville rock scene (Candice is a dedicated music supporter). So, her many friends in Nashville’s music community are coming together for several benefit shows, and the first one is this Saturday May 29 at Exit/In. 100% of the donations raised will go to Candice in her time of need.

The lineup:

THE FEATURES
HOTPIPES
CORTNEY TIDWELL
and some awesome DJs to be announced

Doors will open at 8 p.m., the show is 18+, and admission is a suggested $15 donation.

There will also be a raffle, and I hear a bunch of local businesses have donated prizes (Local Honey, Mitchell’s Deli, Grimey’s, many more…), and do our part to help Candice, we have donated a gift certificate for a tune up. So come out, rock out, celebrate Candice and let’s kick this cancer way outta town!

Oh man- temps are rising, the thick air forming, and the kids all know whats up. Summer time is upon us, creeping in and bringing good times with her. Let’s make 2010 the one to remember.

HALCYON’S GUIDE TO SUMMER LOVING

27b

You gotta have a pool- and if you don’t, befriend some dude who does (we know one- his name begins with “W” and ends with “hit”). This year’s gonna be a scorcher, and you gotta stay cool, especially after riding around all day in the hot hot heat.

Your appetite will be strong from days of biking to the pool, so make sure to heat up the barbeque and fill yourself up on pitfire goodness. BBQs are all about friends, so if you don’t have any, you can come to the shop and grill with us. We usually have something grilling on a Sunday afternoon in the parking lot. But you gotta bring your own meat!

Plan your ride accordingly- summer time is all about America, and you gotta show your colors. Start early and get your ride in full USA Pride in time for the 4th of July- that’s when all the kids parade their wheels and you better be up to snuff.

Wiffleball

Wiffle ball. If you don’t know, now you know. Wiffle is the new American passtime and your pitch better be on point.

Whatever this is- golden. Definitely on the summer list of good.

Don’t forget some good tunes, sunscreen, and your sweetheart. These key ingredients will insure your summer will be a blast. All this is making me thirsty for an iced tea, see you at the pool.

No excuses this week- the weather is perfect for cycling, and the lords of advocacy are calling your name.Via Walk/Bike Nashville:

Join Walk / Bike Nashville on the 2010 Bike to Work Day on Friday, May 21!  For convenience and safety, volunteers will be leading groups on designated routes into downtown.  Participation in these groups is not mandatory to celebrate with us downtown.  Helmets and safe bicycle handling skills are required.

Our celebration location will be Church Street Park downtown (on the corner of Church Street and Capitol Blvd.)  The park is on Church Street between 5th and 7th which are both one-way from Broadway.  Refreshments, orange juice, coffee, snacks and water will be provided!  We will have a brief presentation around 7:35am.

This is how a bike can change a life- bikes giving purpose, creating goals, empowering kids all over the land. All while catching stares with the outpour of creativity.
