A bit late on updates, but we’re back in commission.
SO on Halloween, Halcyon, 2wheels1crank and Skumlife hosted the Scaredy Cat alley cat race. The race began at Centennial Park and took riders to cemeteries around town. We ended at Halcyon, where 5 XL pizzas disappeared in literally 10 seconds, prizes were handed out, and beverages were consumed.
Pre race at the park…we had 35 riders compete.
Post race collapse
Our winner, Richard, receiving the Golden Saddle. Richard rolled in a good 15 minutes before any other rider…we estimated it was a 25 mile race, but the beauty of an alley cat is that riders figure out their own route. Richard’s must have been shorter, because it only took him 35 minutes. Dang.
Hey ladies! Devan took the girls’ bracket, but everyone showed up strong.
Thanks to Ryan Green for the pictures. Next alley cat will be for our First Birthday at the beginning of December. All proceeds will go to the Bike Workshop at the Oasis Center.
Oh dang Halloween is gonna be fun: SCAREDY CAT ALLEY CAT RACE. We have prizes from all these fantastic sponsors, there will be a boys’ and a girls’ bracket, and an after party at Halcyon.
Guitar Town Rickshaw is a bicycle-taxi service (pedicab) that recently opened up. I’m not sure of all the details, such as rates, areas of service, and hours of operation because their website is still under construction. The owner came into Halcyon the other day to stock up on lights and bells, and he exuded enthusiasm and professionalism. And he should; pedicabs are a safe, pollutant-free, affordable means of transport. Nashville needs more of this, we must SUSTAIN!
Thank you, Google. The new “Bike There” option for Google Maps could potentially be the answer to many cyclists’ prayers. It is about time that a standardized bicycle routing system was created, and who better than Google to provide it. Let’s hope that it will include elevation information…
Right now, Google is taking suggestions for where their “trike cam” should go that cars cannot: greenways, park trails, etc. The deadline for suggestions is October 28th, and we have to get our region involved. Not only would it be great for our community of cyclists, but it would be invaluable to traveling cyclists who come through our area. Please contact Google and tell them where you want their maps to go.
