Halcyon Bike Workshop

The Halcyon Bike Workshop is now into it’s fourth week! The program, which is a partnership between Halcyon and the Oasis Center, teaches underprivileged youth bike repair and safety and each kid gets a free bike! For this first summer of the Workshop, we are doing two six-week sessions with 20 kids per session. On the first day of ‘class’, the kids picked out a bike and broke it down to the frame. For the rest of the session, the teens build the bike back up, part by part.

That’s Stephannie, one of Halcyon’s mechanics, and Marea, working on her wheels. The kids are amazingly fast learners, and are building some awesome bikes.

We are still taking donations for the program, including bikes, parts, helmets, tools…anything bike related! If you want to donate a bike, you can bring it by the shop, 1118 Halcyon Ave. in the 12 South district of Nashville, during business hours! Tuesday-Saturday 11-7 and Sunday 12-5.
